State of Missouri is Hiring a Park Specialist - 7041210 Near Hills, MO

This position will be located at St. Joe State Park, 2800 Pimville Road, Park Hills, Missouri 63601. Work shifts will vary according to facility demands and will include working a maximum of two weekends a month throughout the year. This position works a four-day work week with 10 hour shifts.

  • Assist in directing the overall operation and maintenance of St. Joe State Park, including campground, day use areas, trail network, small maintenance and repair projects, visitor services, and operations of the ORV area.
  • Act in the absence of the Park Superintendent or Park Supervisor, independently make sound decisions and direct staff as needed. Complete and submit reports relating to stewardship, volunteer, fleet usage, and processing payments.
  • Oversee visitor services, campground reservation system operation and campground host program including direct supervision of full time employee, seasonal staff and volunteer campground hosts.
  • Assist with overseeing the work and behavior of various seasonal, volunteer, and full-time staff, including the ability to mentor and coach staff
  • Plan and coordinate special events and special program requests with a variety of stakeholders
  • Greet the public and discuss the facility's resources and/or enforces the rules and regulations relating to the state park system.
  • Assist with administrative functions including: annual budget requests; invoice submittal, tracking and managing/reconciling budget allocations; project recommendations; bidding and purchasing materials and services; and revenue management
  • Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Biology, Fisheries, Natural Sciences, Business or Public Administration, or related field (Experience involving management, supervision, and active participation in various activities involving interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance, and enhancement of state parks and historic sites may substitute for the required education.)
  • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.

Other Preferred Qualifications/Experience/Special Job Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Must work a maximum of two weekends per month throughout the year.
  • Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds
