American Energy Storage Innovations, Inc. has a full-time opening for an Engineering Lab Manager in Hudson, Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

The Engineering Lab Manager is responsible for setting up and overseeing the engineering lab space, managing of lab staff, and assisting to test and debug energy storage system components ranging from small test systems to fully integrated energy storage systems. The individual is also responsible for support tasks, which includes recognizing and solving performance and operational issues to improve development efficiency to further the progress of the engineering team and organization. This individual must be able to work quickly and adapt to constantly evolving priorities and technical considerations, while keeping track of several task threads at the same time. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage support staff, update, develop, document, and implement processes and procedures to improve lab operations and efficiency including continuous evaluation to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Plan lab equipment, workspaces, and project timelines in coordination with managers and engineers to ensure the company has the environment and equipment necessary to accomplish project goals per scheduled plan. 
  • Design and implement tests to evaluate the performance of energy storage systems, sub-systems, and components.
  • Support the validation testing of energy storage systems, sub-systems and components, documenting, analyzing, and reporting data and test results.
  • Read and analyze design documents schedules, and other records and reports to determine testing and equipment requirements.
  • Lead and support team to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical systems, sub-systems components, and energy storage systems making necessary modifications and documenting updates. Includes but not limited to PCBs through equipment functionality.
  • Maintain resources and budget for cost effectiveness and to meet project deadlines.
  • Researches and recommends the use of new technologies and equipment, staying current on industry trends and best practices.
  • Facilitate growth of lab staff through reviews, goal setting, mentorship, and development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively cross-functionally and with all stakeholders.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. 
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, knowledge, and prior relevant experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience working in R&D Lab environment or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience of hands-on experience in building, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical assemblies.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working on medium to high voltage equipment, tools, and systems.
  • Proven track record of progressive leadership experience and project/program management experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Progressively responsible experience demonstrating growth/advancement in responsibility.
  • Experience with PCBA rework and cable assembly.
  • Be able to multitask, and change priorities quickly as needed.
  • Ability to provide verbal and written feedback clearly and concisely to Design team members on any findings.
  • Experience creating automated test setups using LabView or equivalent.
  • Experience with handling and working on Li-Ion batteries, battery pack design, power systems, alternative energy systems, battery management systems (BMS), MEMS, and sensors preferred.
  • Experience with CAD programs such as Altium, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed (less than 15% domestic and international travel on average).

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, workbench, and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer, test, and other office equipment.

  • Must have good hand/eye coordination.
  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environment with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. 
  • Must be able to manipulate equipment for calibration and modification.
  • Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
