SUMMARY: A direct public service position responsible for assisting various library users in accessing the second-floor non-fiction collection and for helping to maintain the many sources of information in the Main Library’s Reference Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. 1. To assist the public in their use of the library, increase the quality of service, and optimize patron satisfaction through direct public relations and assistance.
a. Greets the public, answers the telephone, provides material recommendations, and answers basic questions.
b. Assists the public in searching for and locating books and other appropriate materials for basic reference requests.
c. Assists public in use of computers, database, faxes, viewing/duplicating or other equipment in department.
d. Retrieves periodicals from the stacks when requested by public.
e. Assists users in accessing the department’s special collections, like Business and local history.
f. Actively seeks opportunities to promote CCPL programs and services to our user/community.
2. To perform certain computer-related tasks, using SIRSI or OPAC, while maintaining confidentiality of users’ records.
a. Places holds and loans for titles as requested.
b. Verifies user records.
c. Checks computers in and out.
3. To maintain branch collection ease of use.
a. Reshelf books and periodicals as necessary.
b. Files pamphlets, loose-leaf service inserts, tax and other special forms.
c. Reads shelves to provide accuracy.
4. To perform other reasonable related duties (with appropriate accommodation if necessary) as assigned by immediate supervisor and other administration as required.
a. Sorts and distributes second and third-class mail.
REQUIREMENTS: Some computer experience helpful, and 25 WPM typing skill.
Ability to interact with a wide range of users in a courteous and pleasant manner.
Capable of standing, walking, reaching, and bending for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy library materials (approximately 25 lbs)
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required.
