Description:SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential function of the Operations Manager is to ensure that products manufactured at our Ithaca location are delivered on-time, in the correct quantities and to quality standards per customer order requirements. Also responsible for ensuring that shop orders are scheduled properly, have appropriate quality sign-offs, and data collection is sufficient to meet customer needs. Responsible for a team of 6 full time and 1 part time manufacturing associates, as well as the support staff that includes a planner and a maintenance team member. In general, the Operations Manager’s work is to be performed in support of the ‘Omega Optical’ Mission Statement’ and in line with the company Values of Quality & Precision, Collaboration, Continuous Improvement, Integrity, and Growth for our Employees.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Primary Tasks to be performed:

· Manage Ithaca Coating Techs and support personnel as Direct reports and provide team goals, individual goals, and yearly performance reviews.

· Builds a great team in a small company environment.

· Maintain a safe environment and enforce all safety protocols.

· Ensure that all facilities and machine issues are driven to closure in a timely manner.

· Help set & attain operational goals for the performance of the sites in line with corporate Omega goals. SMART goals will be focused on demonstrative improvements in the areas of Customer Quality, On-Time Delivery, and Internal Scrap/Rework costs.

· Lead and direct a Daily Management Process with the production team.

· Support weekly Book-to-Bill Meetings with updates on schedule attainment, late orders, and new project status.

· Continually develops and manages a comprehensive production control system that ensures the on-time delivery of the correct quality and quantity of materials and parts.

· Work with the Quality Manager in support of customer returns and supplier quality issues.

· Works with the purchasing, shipping /receiving department to manage raw materials and outsourced work flows.

· Strategically plans and schedules shop floor production utilizing the tools in Omega Live.

· Provides our internal customer success team with accurate lead times, and flexible delivery schedules.

· Prepares and provides solutions to production bottlenecks at production planning meetings.

· Ensures that product movement is properly tracked through our Shop Orders and Omega Live control system.

· Teams with engineering, quality control, sales, purchasing and other project members to effectively and efficiently transfer new product or processes from conception to production.

· Reports in detail to immediate supervisor progress towards both team and individual assignments and projects. Raises issues as they occur.

Secondary Tasks to be performed:

· Assist with the process of relocating our Rochester Coating machines to our Ithaca location.

· Provide support to other Omega locations as necessary.

· Help to bench mark and develop performance standards as well as monitor progress towards company performance goals.

· Establish maintenance procedures and guidelines to increase the utilization and effectiveness of our capital equipment.

· Support resolution to any facilities or building problems as they occur.

· Report to your immediate supervisor all security breaches.

Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training: Required: None

Preferred 2 year college degree in business or technology

Experience: Required: 2 years of experience as production coordinator in an optical manufacturing business

Preferred: 3-5 years of experience as a coating technician or engineer

Knowledge/Skills: Skilled in use of Microsoft Excel and Word

Skilled in the use of ERP software

Basic math skills

Ability to implement lean manufacturing methodologies.

Knowledge of Quality Systems such as ISO 9001

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

· BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The individual must also have the ability to maneuver around the plant

· BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching.

· BODY SENSES: Must have command of these senses: sight, hearing, touch and smell (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.

· STRENGTH: Must occasionally lift 20 lbs.

OTHER GENERAL COMPANY CRITERIA:

· Permanent position required to be located in our Ithaca facility.

· Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations.

· Consistently demonstrates ability to recognize and deal with priorities

· Performs duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision.

· Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned, assisting others as needed.

· Adheres to the provisions of the Employee Policy and Procedure Manual

· Seeks guidance and direction, as necessary, for performance of duties.

· Demonstrates good judgment in investigating and solving problems.

· Respects the confidentiality of company, customer and personnel information

· Participates in management meetings, as required

· Does not abuse or take advantage of personal days off

· Provides proper notification of absence from work

· All work to be performed in a safe, orderly and professional manner.

· All work is to be performed per lean manufacturing and six-sigma concepts with emphasis on teamwork and ‘Total Quality’ concepts.

· All documentation shall be accurate and current, and recorded on appropriate company forms provided for the purpose.

· Performs work within the guidelines of governmental laws.

· All work will be performed with environmental safety in mind.

· Employee will work within the guidelines of the latest revisions of Corporation health, safety and security policies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate-controlled, smoke-free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. The noise level in the work environmental is usually low.
