Harcros Chemicals Inc. is Hiring an EHS Manager Near Kansas, KS

Summary:
At Harcros Chemicals Inc., an employee-owned company with a rich legacy in specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution, we're continuously expanding. With 2 manufacturing plants and 27 distribution facilities across 20 states, we're seeking a dedicated Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to support environmental, safety and security programs at our Kansas City manufacturing facility. The position also includes project coordination activities for construction and maintenance improvements.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
  1. Report to the VP of Manufacturing with a matrix reporting structure to the corporate Director of Safety and the corporate Director of Engineering and Environment to implement safety, environmental and other compliance programs.
  2. Provide leadership and guidance to manufacturing on federal, state, local laws/codes, regulations, standards, and best practices not limited to the following areas: Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA (TIER II, TRI), RMP, PSM, DHS and FDA.
  3. Provide leadership and guidance to develop and maintain a safety culture to comply with Harcros Polices and OSHA regulations with a focus on incident prevention.
  4. Organize, administer, and supervise OSHA programs including, but not limited to, PSM, MOCs, PHAs, JHAs, PSSRs, HazOps, root cause investigations, and corrective action and/or review.
  5. Conduct IH studies for work areas and personnel for existing and new work processes. Interpret analytical results, prepare related reports and employee notifications.
  6. Provide input to projects/construction for EHS aspects of construction which may include: Environmental improvement, waste minimization, process improvement, cost savings, construction, and renovations.
  7. Develop/write technical memos, regulatory reports, permitting, work plans, proposals, and cost estimates.
  8. Coordinate activities with regulatory agencies for permitting and to verify compliance, resolve situations, and maintain a cooperative working relationship.
  9. Manage the generation, handling, and/or inspection of hazardous waste and hazardous waste storage. This can include responding or managing chemical spills and incidents based on the sites emergency action or contingency plan. These duties include preparing and managing hazardous waste records such as manifests, inspection logs, waste determination and other reports
  10. Conduct or manage environmental and safety training for production employees as required.
  11. Support quality programs and process improvements. Assist with customer or agency audits/inspections.
  12. Writes and /or reviews operating procedures for manufacturing processes
  13. Represents the company in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  14. Employee may perform other related duties as needed by the organization.
  15. Occasional travel for training or other needs may be required.
  16. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
  • Manage manufacturing staff up to 2-3 employees that have EHS compliance and training duties.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering
  • 10-15 years of experience in EHS compliance.
  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Master’s degree
    • Professional Engineering License
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist
    • Certified Safety Professional
    • Experience in environmental site assessment/remediation, pesticide registration, or food safety.

  • Proficiency in using personal computers with knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience in training technical and professional courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds to build cohesive teams.

Physical Capabilities & Requirements:
  • Physical requirements include lifting and moving various weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical requirements will also include standing or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Visual abilities including close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of weather conditions while conducting inspections and audits.
  • Routinely working around hazardous chemical processes and storage areas.
  • Noise level is moderate to loud.
