We are excited to announce that the Kelso School District anticipates hiring an exceptional team member to expand our science team. Kelso School District teachers are instructional designers. They design and create lessons for the various phases of learning throughout the science program and sustain a high-energy, positive classroom environment favorable to academic achievement and personal growth. Our teachers establish positive rapport with students and their families and strive to motivate students to develop their skills, attitudes, and knowledge to foster the necessary foundation for lifelong learning.
Essential FunctionsParticipates as a department and school team member with responsibility for the education of assigned students
Modifies instructional programs to meet individual student needs
Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve required academic essential learnings in the specified curriculum area
Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior and supporting students’ social emotional needs.
Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior
Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population
Maintains student records, i.e. attendance, daily grades, essential learnings data, cumulative records, orders, and inventory in a timely and orderly fashion. Reports student progress to parents regularly
Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology
Requires the use of multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail, computers, document readers, and smart boards
Evaluates student performance and provides guidance which will promote the students’ welfare, educational development and citizenship
Participates in team and individual instructional planning, which includes writing daily lesson plans
Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings
Participates in the total building program, including attendance/supervision of assemblies, contests, and other student activities
Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
QualificationsBA or BS in Science; valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Designated Science, Middle Level Science, or elementary endorsement (science specific preferred)
Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment
Must have regular, consistent attendance
Demonstrated successful teaching experience in a secondary-level program is required
Willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on developing skills for all students
Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods by participating in classes, workshops, in-service, peer coaching, reading, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs
Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude and safe environment for students, self and others
Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students
Demonstrated ability to set appropriate expectations for, and professional boundaries, with students
Demonstrated ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
Other FunctionsPerform all other duties as assigned
