HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Dawson Construction, LLC is growing and looking for an experienced, motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Ketchikan or Juneau, Alaska and in Bellingham, WA. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating excavators, dozers, loaders, and other construction equipment as necessary. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required to get to various job sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Safely and skillfully operates excavators, Dozers, skid steers, loaders, haul truck, compactors, and other heavy/light construction equipment.
• Works on the ground with crew when not operating equipment; this may include but is not limited to tasks such as laboring, pipe laying, and checking grade.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline workflows, and work cooperatively to provide great customer service.
• Consistently show up for work on time and stay for the duration of the shift
• Exemplifies the culture of hard work and continuous improvement while fostering stability and sustainable growth.
• Ensures safety is an everyday topic and supersedes all other factors to prevent accidents and create a safe working environment for everyone by ensuring equipment is maintained and secure at the work site; following proper equipment operating procedures; and safety procedures and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings safety concerns and problems to the immediate attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager.
• Fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 3 years of heavy equipment operation is required.
• 3 years of commercial, civil, or other relevant experience required.

Skills:

• Ability to safely operate heavy construction equipment.
• Knowledge of methods, and techniques of utility installation, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of materials used in system construction and repair.
• Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions in equipment operations.
• Skilled in the use and care of tools and mechanical equipment.
• Skilled in the operation of an excavator, mini excavator around existing utilities.
• Ability to interpret and work from construction drawings and standard plans.
• Ability to work independently and with others as needed.
• Ability to communicate and understand and follow verbal/written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients.
• Must be able to work as a team.
• Able to take and follow directions from supervisor.
• Proactively seeks help and direction as needed.
• Ability to focus attention on details and follow work rules.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
