QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Basic communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above qualifications.

REPORTS TO : Director of Transportation

WORK YEAR : 180 Days

JOB GOAL : To provide for the safe operation of the assigned bus and control of the passengers while transporting to and from their assigned education center or school-related function.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and work year to be established by the Lanier County Board of Education

EVALUATION : This position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of internet, email, and other computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Complies with school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics for Educators, as related to job requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to chain of command.
  • Acts in a professional manner and maintains a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities.
  • Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated, and efficient school.
  • Participates in professional organizations and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job.
  • Monitors compliance with policies and laws concerning area of responsibility.
  • Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities and performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  • Participates with other system personnel in planning and decision-making meetings.
  • Communicates vision and mission to school personnel as appropriate.
  • Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drives bus over designated route according to time schedule when transporting students to and from school.
  • Performs pre- and post- trip inspections of bus as required by department regulations.
  • Fuels the assigned bus as needed.
  • Delivers bus to fleet maintenance shop as directed by pre-arranged monthly schedule.
  • Submits all reports in a timely manner as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Attends all bus driver safety meetings and bus driver training sessions.
  • Operates school bus in accordance with the laws of Georgia and in accordance with the policies outlined by the Lanier County School District under all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to sun, fog, rain, sleet, hail, snow, and ice.
  • Abides by procedures and policies regarding the safe and orderly operation of the bus including pick up and drop off procedures and loading and unloading procedures.
  • Maintains a clean bus (inside and out) as outlined by the local system transportation policies.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required.
  • Reports delays or accidents to the transportation supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintains student discipline on the bus and refers serious infractions to appropriate administrator.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and / or superintendent.
