Job DescriptionShift SupervisorPurpose of the PositionThis position is responsible for entire manufacturing plant shift operations, quality and supervision of our freeze dry manufacturing facility located in Little Falls, MN.
Shift Supervisor Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • Oversee and direct shift manufacturing, packaging, and warehousing activities to ensure the Company is meeting required production, food safety, quality, workplace safety, and customer commitments.
  • Review production schedules with Plant Coordinator and execute efficient execution of production schedule.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with production and quality standards.
  • Provide feedback and suggested improvements regarding production, quality, safety, and overall efficiencies to Plant Manager.
  • Work with Plant Manager to implement cost effective system to control operating expenses.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes result in accurate real-time inventory.
  • Collaborate with corporate inventory accounting, quality, and management as required.
  • Assist Plant Manager in providing leadership for shift team member relations through effective communication, coaching, training, and development with a positive demeanor, openness, taking personal accountability, and having a team and growth mindset approach.
  • Responsible for the plant & equipment during shift.
  • Maintain manufacturing facilities working with Maintenance and Safety Manager’s, through preventative maintenance, audits, and continuous improvement exercises.
  • Direct shift employees as necessary for facility and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and sanitation.
  • Understand all positions within the lines and be able to step in as needed to fill a role.
  • Be forklift certified and train as necessary new employees as needed.
  • Responsible for managing the food safety and quality during shift.
  • Work closely with Quality Manager and Plant Manager to jointly deliver cohesiveness and unity between production and quality.
  • Lead a 5S culture ensuring an organized, clean, and audit ready manufacturing facility.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with overall quality standards, food safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure product quality is within quality specifications.
  • Lead the shift teams in adherence of food safety programs and processes within the facility.
  • Ensure a team environment where cross training is encouraged and celebrated.
  • Ensure ability to manage, know and do all positions within the plant from raw side to finished side.
Other
  • Execute the North Freeze Dry Vision, Mission, and Values (VMV’s) at all times.
  • Promote a positive, proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles, as necessary.
  • Available for overtime on a scheduled or call-in basis, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference for a secondary technical degree or equivalent.
  • 1 year Supervisory experience preferred.
  • 2 years of working experience in a manufacturing/production facility preferred.
  • Good knowledge of current food quality, food safety, and workplace safety standards.
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to lead.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player with a growth mindset and positive approach.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a natural problem solver.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt and accommodate to change.
  • Mechanically inclined, drive yourself to continually grow and develop your role.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Forklift Certified or willing to obtain.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.

This job operates within a plant manufacturing environment, with a mixture of an office environment as well. While performing the duties of this job inside the plant, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for a food manufacturing plant with a noise level that is moderate to loud noise as well as an office environment with a noise level that is low to moderate on occasion. The role routinely uses dryer room equipment and materials, as well as office equipment, I.e., laptops, technology, printers, etc.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme temperature changes in the plant from normal ambient to below freezing temperatures, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places, and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.
