Job scope:
The Controller manages and supervises the daily operations of the Business office in the areas of accounting, accounts payable, receivables, payroll, and audits. Position provides needed support and direction to staff to ensure functions of Business office are performed efficiently, and assists in managing work flow and prioritizing tasks. The Controller provides coordination of annual single audit and various state/federal agency audits and monitoring visits. The Position is responsible for budget approval and signature authorization of Business Office purchase requests up to Program Manager level. Includes financial statement preparation, fund transfers, and working with HUD independent auditors.
Education/licensure:
Bachelor's Degree in accounting with a minimum of 5 years of recent, similar work as a Controller preferred. Current valid driver's license in state of residence.
Experience/Knowledge:
Work experience in a governmental or non-profit organization preferred. Must have substantial management experience and computerized accounting and excel spreadsheet experience. A thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
Must be detail-oriented and have critical thinking skills to analyze data, determine actions, and implement decisions. Must work with a high degree of independence, self-motivation, and dependability. Must possess problem solving and analytical skills for complex accounting tasks. Must maintain effective relations with staff, co-workers, supervisors, program staff, auditors, and funding agency staff. Must maintain compliance with all standards of contractual specifications, mandatory training, privacy standards, licensing certifications, professional/ethical conduct, and other standards.
Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job: Reaching, mobility , talking, hearing, repetitive motions, travel.
