Pineywoods Community Academy is Hiring a Substitute Teacher Near Lufkin, TX

SUBSTITUTE

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.

PREFERENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE:

  1. Valid Texas Teacher Certification.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
  3. Experience in teaching, substitute teaching or college coursework in the education field.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

In support of the mission of the school district, provides students with appropriate instruction and learning activities to facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Substitute Pay Grade, Temporary, At-Will

Wage/Hour Status: Subject to Assignment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Ensures adequate supervision to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  2. Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. 
  3. Maintains established routine of school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  4. Facilitates classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
  5. Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and personnel information.
  6. Ensures accurate recording and timely submittal of student attendance. 
  7. Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Parent-Student Handbook.
  8. Communicates occurrences relating to student discipline, conduct, attendance and instruction to teacher and campus administration, as necessary.
  9. Assists in the supervision of students before and after school, as scheduled.
  10. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  11. Participates in staff development training programs, meetings, and special events as assigned.
  12. Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adheres at all times to the professional Code of Ethics.
  13. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor, performs other tasks, and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
  14. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax machine, other office equipment, and standard instructional equipment.

Mental Demands: Has the ability to: read, effectively communicate (verbally and written), maintain emotional control under stress, work prolonged or irregular hours, perform multiple tasks, and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, twist, speak, hear, perform repetitive hand motions, withstand prolonged use of a computer, and lift up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work: inside and outside, with regular exposure to noise, and with frequent interruptions. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; assist non-ambulatory students. May encounter possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Must have the ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
