Macon R-1 School District is seeking a Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
Qualifications
  • Missouri Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Special Education or equivalent
  • Knowledge of various instructional strategies
  • Effective communication skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Previous teaching experience beneficial
Essential Job Functions
  • Administers assessments and develops IEPs for students.
  • Serves as provider of direct services by implementing the IEP for children with special needs in a variety of settings.
  • Implements an appropriate educational program that addresses the following for each student:
  • a safe, nurturing classroom environment
  • a variety of opportunities to learn through direct and indirect instruction
  • learning opportunities that allow students to make choices and address their individual needs
  • the utilization of multiple and differentiated instructional strategies
  • Interprets students’ educational needs and progress to parents; maintains a parent contact log
  • Identifies the specific learning needs of each student properly identified under IDEA and maintains a clear record of each student’s instructional experience and progress in the permanent special education file.
  • Evaluate pupil progress and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Participate in transition meetings to insure smooth transitions for children entering and leaving early childhood special education services.
  • Communicate regularly with parents by utilizing newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of a paraprofessional.
  • Keeps abreast of and complies with applicable statutes and regulations, including due process safeguards and the Missouri State Plan.
  • Maintain appropriate student records.
  • Participates in professional growth activities, faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal or the Director of Special Education.
  • Toileting students and instructing self help skills as determined necessary

Work Environment
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Inside classroom/school settings, outdoors in a variety of settings and weather conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to high.
  • Some students may display aggressive/assaultive behavior, including but not limited to biting, kicking, punching and/or throwing objects, utilizing profanity, or attempting to destroy property.
  • Some students will require assistance from the teacher for many or all personal care tasks.
Terms Of EmploymentNine month contract. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
