DescriptionVanderpool, Frostick & Nishanian, PC, a well-respected law firm located in Manassas Virginia, is seeking an exceptionally talented Land Use Planner to join our growing team in Manassas, VA.
About The RoleAs a Land Use Planner, you will play a vital role in supporting our attorneys by preparing, filing, and processing land use applications for residential and commercial development projects in Northern Virginia. This is an opportunity to leverage your expertise in the zoning entitlement process to help our clients achieve their real estate development goals.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with attorneys to research, prepare, and file rezoning, special use permit, and other land development applications for various land use projects in Northern Virginia, including residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.
  • Manage the land use applications, ensuring exceptionally prepared, efficiently completed, timely submissions with adherence to all filing requirements.
  • Conduct thorough research of relevant zoning codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, City/County staff, consultants (civil engineers, landscape designers, architects), government officials, community organizations and other team members to ensure project goals are met.
  • Prepare presentations and other materials needed for public hearings before planning commissions and governing bodies.
  • Assist with drafting legal documents related to land use matters, under the supervision of an attorney.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, environmental studies, architecture, public policy, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in land use planning, preferably within Northern Virginia.
  • Experience researching, preparing, and filing land use applications.
  • Strong understanding of zoning codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AICP or LEED certification.
  • Experience working in a law firm setting.
