Job Summary:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the sourcing of materials and services for various commodities. The role involves implementing global supply management strategies to achieve supplier partnerships, reduce the supplier base, manage assets effectively, improve quality, enhance delivery and cycle time performance, and involve suppliers early in new product developments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations on strategic sourcing contracts, ensuring legal and auditable documentation.
  • Supplier Management: Develop, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships to meet material cost, availability, and inventory goals.
  • Quality Troubleshooting: Analyze and influence suppliers to resolve quality problems.
  • Performance Monitoring: Maintain supplier quality through assessments, evaluations, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between suppliers and the company to resolve issues and prevent supply interruptions.
  • New Material Procurement: Procure and evaluate new materials for design processes.
  • Supplier Coordination: Arrange supplier information gathering and visits, and lead the qualification process for new materials.
  • Production Support: Support production and new product introductions as a materials resource.
  • Commodity Procurement Plans: Design, develop, and implement procurement plans, managing transitions to strategic suppliers.
  • Inventory Management: Develop and monitor inventory targets, and minimize obsolete materials.
  • Vendor Managed Inventory: Implement and monitor VMI programs.
  • Leadership: Provide direction to cross-functional teams and buyers.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Execute regulatory requirements, including international shipping.
  • Market Monitoring: Keep the business updated on industry trends and market technology.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 5 years in buying complex commodities and managing supplier relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence and lead teams.
  • Supplier Management: Effective management of complex supplier relationships with diplomacy and negotiation skills.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to drive for results.
  • Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of mechanical/electrical devices and manufacturing processes.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with MRP and JD Edwards.
  • Travel: Requires some domestic and potentially international travel.
