Accounting Manager Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Present financial reports to senior management, board of directors, and external stakeholders, as required.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop annual budgets and periodic forecasts in collaboration with department heads and senior management. Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to identify areas of concern or improvement. Update forecasts based on changes in market conditions, business strategies, and other relevant factors.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records through regular review and reconciliation. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud or errors.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, tax laws, and accounting standards. Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits and inspections. Identify and mitigate financial risks through proactive risk management strategies.
- Strategic Financial Planning: Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making processes. Evaluate investment opportunities, capital expenditures, and other financial initiatives. Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term financial strategies and business plans.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the accounting and finance team, providing guidance and support to foster professional growth. Establish clear goals and performance metrics for team members, conducting regular performance reviews and providing feedback. Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
- Profitability: Develop, lead, and execute projects, programs, and processes that will help drive overall company profitability.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. (preferred)
- CPA or CMA certification preferred, but not required.
- 6 years of proven work experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make strategic recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in financial software applications (e.g., ERP systems, Microsoft, etc.) and familiarity with data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and analysis.
