POSITION
Saint Thomas Academy is seeking a licensed school nurse, grades 6-12, for the 2024-25 school year.
JOB DESCRIPTION
To enhance the educational process of students by maximizing their health and well-being, modifying
or removing health-related barriers to learning, and promoting an optimal level of wellness. To
provide preventive health services, identify problems and provide services as case findings, health
education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Support the education
process by working to assure the health of all students.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Initiate and participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating a coordinated school health

program to include health services, health education, environmental health, and work site
health promotion.

• Oversee health office operations to include maintaining medical asepsis, complying with

hazardous waste disposal/OSHA standards, organizing and maintenance of supplies,
maintenance of school health files, provide a clean and organized health office, and maintain
disaster and multi-hazard preparedness.

• Partner with Student Services for the physical and social/emotional needs of students.
• Develop and maintain school health policies and procedures.
• Administer medications in accordance with physicians’ orders and parent authorization.
• Provide direct skilled nursing services, first aid, and illness and emergency care to students.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law.
• Review school health records, i.e., student health records, emergency information, etc.
• Maintain security of school health supplies.
• Serve as resource person on health issues.
• Correspond with parent/guardian on health needs of students.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support Saint Thomas Academy and the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese’s mission and

goals and actively articulate them to the Academy’s constituents and the wider community.

• In support of the mission and goals of Saint Thomas Academy, employees will follow all

school policies and procedures.

• Provide leadership consistent with Catholic teaching; practicing Catholic in good standing

with the Church preferred.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse; Licensed School Nurse preferred.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations.
• Current training in CPR and First Aid.
• Experience working with middle or high school students preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with students, colleagues, and

administrators.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to work independently or as a team, exercising reasonable judgement, in a fast-paced,

internet, and Google Drive/Docs.
