James Madison's Montpelier is Hiring a Manager of Institutional Giving (Grants Manager) Near Montpelier, VA

The Manager of Institutional Giving (Grants Manager) plays an integral part in the Foundation’s strategic vision in advancement and sustainability. In collaboration with the President & CEO, Chief Operating Officer, and Development team, the Manager’s main goals are to establish and implement the strategy for grant funding for the organization, including identifying opportunities and working with various department leadership to seek funding for both general operating support and museum programming, education, and related initiatives to achieve significant fundraising success, broadening the donor base of The Montpelier Foundation and managing all grant administration and reporting requirements. The Manager will be leading the post-award process, collaborating across departments to ensure grantor requirement fulfillment. Additionally, the manager will help write and create a range of content supporting philanthropic communication with external audiences, and as the internal resource of high-level organization-wide output and impact data. The Manager is also tasked to develop strong relationships with Montpelier constituents and staff and to be dedicated to the Foundation’s mission. The Manager will be knowledgeable about Montpelier, James and Dolley Madison, the Montpelier Enslaved Community, the U.S. Constitution and American history, and Montpelier’s role in promoting democracy.

DUTIES

  • Research, prepare, and submit grant and sponsorship proposals and reports for foundation, government, and corporate applications

  • Track and fulfill donor post-award requirements including reporting, communications, and stewardship

  • Develop and implement plans to increase corporate, foundation, and government support, including proactively identifying new donor/grant prospects.

  • Maintain an active pipeline of prospective donors/grants and manage all grant applications and reporting deadlines.

  • Maintain internal grants tracking calendar for the philanthropy department, tracking prospects, proposals, awards and visits necessary in support of grant funding efforts.

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects, including in-person visits and other personal outreach in addition to formal proposals and reports.

  • Prepare grant applications and proposals that address strategic priorities of The Montpelier Foundation, working closely with senior staff throughout the organization to identify needs and write and submit proposals.

  • Administer all awarded grants, working closely with finance and program staff throughout the grant period to ensure grant-funded activities are proceeding on schedule, on budget, and in accordance with grant requirements; and submitting all reports on a timely basis.

  • Ensure appropriate, timely, and accurate acknowledgment of all corporate, foundation, and government gifts

  • Ensure all grant applications, attachments, reporting, awards, and acknowledgments are uploaded into the CRM database.

  • Review and report on efforts at least bi-annually and as requested by the executive management and Board of Directors; recommend changes and enhancements.

  • Steward corporate and foundation donors with special mailings and updates.

  • Uphold the Foundation’s commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion and to parity with the Montpelier Descendant Committee in all grants-related activities.

  • Assist Advancement colleagues in the execution of various events and programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.
