We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Practice Assistant or Paralegal to join our team. This person will provide support to attorneys and work with paralegals in a fast-paced legal environment at a boutique litigation firm. This is a 90-day contract position, with no benefits, but the option to evaluate permanent employment after the 90 days.
Duties:
-Interact with and manage existing and potential new vendors relating to office equipment, software, and other third-party support services.
- Receive and summarize information from potential new client inquiries and transmit the same to Members. Complete and/or obtain completed Client Intake Form where appropriate. Prepare initial draft engagement letters. Open new clients/matters in Clio (billing software).
- Prepare, revise/amend, and proofread draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and proposed orders, and exhibits to same.
- Electronic filing of pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other papers in state and federal court e-filing systems.
- Work with clients as directed relating to case management, status updates, discovery issues and scheduling of meetings and phone calls.
- Work with attorneys to identify/organize exhibits prior to depositions, schedule court reporter for depositions and receive/review/file transcripts.
- Answer phones, make copies/scan documents, receive visitors, errands (post office, supply runs, etc.), everyday up keep for the office
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role preferred
