RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Posting charges, releasing claims, entering insurance and patient payments.
• Communicate with other staff, coders, providers and/or medical assistants to ensure chart and/or coding accuracy.
• Timely mailing or electronic submission of bills, statements and month end reports.
• Respond to inquiries from payors, providers and patients in a timely fashion.
• Maintain patient and payor contact to ensure prompt payment of bills.
• Responsible for accuracy and status of accounts.
• Work claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services rendered.
• Timely follow up on insurance claim denials ensuring benchmarks are met.
• Claim corrections and appeals.
• Reading and interpreting insurance Explanation of Benefits
• Utilize monthly aging account receivable reports to follow up on unpaid claims aged over 30 days.
• Utilize all online tools available to ensure medical necessity, clean claims, active coverage, authorizations and referrals.
• Participate in monthly meetings.
• Perform additional duties as requested by Supervisory or Management Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years billing experience is required.
• Medicaid billing experience preferred.
• Computer experience is essential. Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products. Previous experience with practice management software. Daily use of Payor sites, such as Navinet, Availity.
• Understanding and interpreting insurance medical policies
• Experience with CPT and ICD 10 coding, coding for otolaryngology preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Workers Comp, MVA preferred.
• Experience with filing claim appeals with payors to ensure maximum entitled reimbursement.
• Experience with in-house chart auditing preferred.
• Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
• Neat, professional appearance.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Desire for continued education/training
• Experience with CPT and ICD 10 coding, Coding for otolaryngology preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma required
• Coding Certification preferred
