Position Focus :

Under direct supervision of the Gross Room Manager and under indirect supervision of the Specimen Receiving, Frozen Section, Gross Room, Senior Clinical Manager, perform maintenance and organizational duties as required in the laboratory, and other additional duties as needed.

Essential Duties of the Position :

Clean, organize and stock grossing stations.

Maintain laboratory facilities and work areas, including the cleaning and organizing of countertops, fridges and bone saws, and filing of tissue specimens.

Maintain data of all Gross Room equipment as required by CAP.

Schedule Gross Room floor cleaning / waxing with the Yale New Haven Hospital Facility staff.

Maintain inventory and contribute to grossing supplies list.

Organize specimen containers in holding cabinets.

Provide help in the accessioning area as needed (accessioning and cassette labeling).

Complete OR runs on designated time schedule.

Perform additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.

Essential Duties

1. Performs equipment maintenance and repair. Modifies and adjusts equipment and apparatus according to experiment and specifications.

2. Creates instructional materials. Oversees and instructs support staff and students in laboratory techniques and equipment usage.

3. Performs specialized scientific / laboratory procedures and techniques. Formulates scientific solutions and media. 4.

Maintains laboratory facilities and work areas. Orders supplies, equipment, and apparatus for laboratory experiments. 5.

Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.

Required Education and Experience

• Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education;
• or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field;

or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Highly motivated and highly organized.

Required Skill / Ability 4 :

Ability to work in a Biohazard Level 2 facility, ability to follow all safety and HIPAA policies.

Ability to lift 50 lbs on a consistent basis.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :

Prior related work experience preferred. Prior experience with CoPath preferred.
