Office of Student Engagement

Job Description

This position will be heavily involved with student programming and will work a flexible schedule, working night and weekends as necessary.

Job Summary

Responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive schedule of student programs to support students' social, academic and intellectual interests in line with our Blueprint for Belonging and contribute to overall student satisfaction and student learning.

The Student Programs Coordinator, in their work with the Office of Student Engagement, should strive to create a student experience framed by the core values of the Student Affairs division which include inclusion, access, growth and engagement.

The Student Programs Coordinator for student engagement will be expected to attend regular meetings and serve on other departmental and all campus committees, as needed.

The division of student affairs, strives to create a support system framed by the learning aims of exploring, engaging and belonging and team members will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Program Management (70%) :

Work closely with various students, student leaders, and student organizations to identify and implement a diverse range of student programs designed to complement existing campus programming and strengthen the student and college community.

Collaborate with faculty and staff in the development of student programs designed to complement the academic mission of the College, as well as larger college-wide programming.

Coordinate The Office of Student Engagement programming schedule to include First Week, Smith To Do, Off-Campus Adventures, Nolen Art Lounge, Fine Arts, Mountain Day Events and the Stress Free program.

Coordinate the Fine Arts Program, oversee the Fine Arts funding process and collaborate with the Smith Office of the Arts to support arts programming.

Conduct regular assessment of student programs and services. Prepare Student Engagement Team members (student staff) to host programming.

Supervise Sophomore Push reunion workers.

Other Functions

Social Media Development (20%) :

Manage and develop the Office of Student Engagement's brand. Support the department's digital communications and promotion.

Highlight the work of students and staff as it pertains to student engagement on Office of Student Engagement social media platforms.

Department Education (5%) :

Help to develop and implement the departmental curriculum as pertaining to the Racial Justice Action Plan and the Blueprint for Belonging.

Miscellaneous (5%) :

Assume responsibility for special projects, committee work and other duties as assigned. Serve in professional staff rotation in OSE on-call schedule.

Back up other staff needs as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Bachelor's degree required, and 1-3 years of experience in student activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and in writing; exercise effective independent professional judgment; establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, student organizations, faculty, staff and external vendors;
  • and relate successfully in one-on-one and group situations with persons representing diverse backgrounds and interests. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices and theories of student learning and development;

understanding of the cultural, social, recreational, and educational needs of students.
