Second Harvest Food Bank is Hiring a Nutrition Manager Near Orleans, LA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Nutrition Manager is responsible for the development, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition education programming intended to support Second Harvest Food Bank’s efforts to improve the nutrition, health, and wellness of those we serve. Supervising a team of Nutrition Coordinators, dietetic interns, and volunteers, the Community Nutrition Manager and team will work with community members and Second Harvest’s partners across an 11-parish region to provide direct nutrition education and connection to a variety of resources, including budget-friendly recipes, grocery budgeting, produce seasonality, etc.

Nutrition education programming is funded, in-part, by SNAP-Education and SNAP Outreach funding through contracts with the State of Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services. As such, the Community Nutrition Manager is responsible for ensuring all related activities and expenses comply with our state-funded contracts, and the required monthly reporting is conducted in a thorough and timely manner.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the supervision of the Impact Director East, the Community Nutrition Manager will be integral to the Impact team, overseeing implementation of nutrition programs. Specifically, they will:

Programming

· Supervise a team of Nutrition Coordinators, the Community Nutrition Manager and team will develop, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate Second Harvest’s nutrition education programming and curricula, including but not limited to nutrition education classes; nutritional nudges; cooking demonstrations; healthy, budget-friendly recipes; grocery budgeting; produce seasonality; etc. All nutrition education programming should utilize multiple mediums including in-person, virtual, video, physical and digital handouts, etc.

· Ensure all nutrition education programming and materials also include SNAP Outreach information, including SNAP eligibility and the application process, in an effort to expand SNAP utilization for eligible recipients across our service area.

· Coordinate dietetic interns’ practice in their community nutrition rotation at Second Harvest Food Bank.

· Recruit, train, and provide good stewardship for nutrition education volunteers.

Collaboration

· Collaborate closely and deeply with the Community Nutrition Team based in the 12-parish region in the western part of Second Harvest’s service area.

· Working with managers and coordinators on the Impact Team, train and provide educational opportunities and resources for Second Harvest’s partners, including but not limited to food pantries, mobile pantries, school pantries, senior food boxes, Makin’ Groceries Mobile Market, etc.

· Work with team to provide nutritional analysis for Community Kitchen children and seniors meals, when applicable.

· Collaborate with inventory process to identify products’ nutrition analysis information for foods that are received and distributed through Second Harvest.

Data/Grant Management

· In conjunction with the Chief Impact Officer and Impact Director East, manage the department’s budgets, including state-funded contract budgets for SNAP-Ed and SNAP Outreach.

· Meet annual program goals and grant deliverables.

· Represent Second Harvest at community meetings, as appropriate.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Social Work, or related field.

Required Qualification: Registered Dietitian

Experience, Skills and Capabilities:

The ideal candidate will possess many of these professional and personal abilities and attributes:

· Ability to successfully supervise and manage a team of staff, interns, and volunteers.

· Proven success building community partnerships.

· Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, familiarity, and sensitivity to poverty and hunger issues and an interest in nutrition and health equity, community food systems, and community organizing.

· Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Ability to produce high quality and effective programming and products.

· Must be able to problem-solve and multi-task effectively to manage high-level of activity in a team-focused, collaborative environment. Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks, and produce accurate work.

· Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with

diverse stakeholders.

· Dynamic self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office environment (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and standard office equipment.

· The position sometimes requires hours outside of the traditional workday, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

· Fluency in Spanish.

· Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Social Work, or related field.

· 2-5 years of documented community nutrition work.

· Non-profit management experience.

· Public speaking proficiency.

Allowable Substitutions: Combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be may be considered in lieu of education and/or experience at the company’s discretion.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
