Basic Purpose Of PositionThe successful candidate will identify and lead value improvement and waste elimination projects that drive Bekaert manufacturing excellence across Production department. They will be responsible for increasing productivity and reducing scrap and quality defects through the efficient utilization of facilities, equipment, materials and personnel utilizing the Bekaert Manufacturing System.
Essential Functions Of The Position
  • Confer with personnel of other departments to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinate production activities with materials, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.
  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Revise production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consult with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
  • Confer with employees to discuss personal conflicts, resolve workplace disputes and provide career guidance.
  • Assist in the resolution of employee/supervisor disputes to minimize disruptions.
  • Compile, store, and retrieve production data.
  • Ensure that all applicable quality and productions procedures are followed.
  • Monitor compliance with all customer requirements or specifications.
  • Employee is responsible for Legal Compliance and to follow company policies and procedures in the area of Safety and the Environment.
  • Manages 3 to 6 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 100 to 200 employees in the Production Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Also may directly supervise 1 to 3 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Competencies Required
  • The candidate must be proficient at identifying and solving manufacturing issues through combining his/her technical knowledge with the ability to organize many details into a broad view of the total operations. While much of their work will be done independently, the candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with operators, supervisors, engineers, consultants, contractors and other departmental managers. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, including written reports with analytical information, and oral presentations. The candidate will also be required to manage production area personnel and to provide them with the training, direction and motivation necessary to succeed.
  • Monitor process efficiency (Cost, Uptime, Yield and Quality).
  • Design, implement and execute process data collection and analysis methods to foster process control and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
  • Identify problems, root causes, develop a course for improvement, organize resources and drive projects to completion through effective project leadership methodologies as well as complete ownership of projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource, solve day-to-day production or quality issues, troubleshoot process issues and institutionalize processes for sustained improvement. This may include acting as an educator and developing required training to upgrade operator knowledge and skills.
  • Proactively cultivate new, or utilize existing, best practices from other Bekaert organizations, similar industries, or vendors to maximize operating performance.
  • Manage production area personnel and provide continuous feedback and follow-up to internal and external customers.
Essential Requirements Of The Position
  • Ability to lead cross-functional project teams.
  • Two to three years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis software used to extract and analyze data. Microsoft Access, Excel, and Minitab experience preferred.
  • Addition software experience with Microsoft Visio, Project, Word, and CAD programs desired.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) from four-year college or university and at least five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
