Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
High School graduation or an acceptable equivalency diploma and vocational training are required.
Must have a Animal Control Officer basic training course certification within one (1) year of employment.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill and ability may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Possession of a valid, appropriate Texas driver's license preferable and an acceptable driving record. Pre-employment drug screen and physical required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge - Knowledge of handling animals, hazards and safety precautions of the work; good knowledge of ordinances, laws and regulations pertaining to animals. Good verbal communication. Knowledge of all other required ability for filling out paperwork, citations, work orders, dog bite reports ect.
Abilities - The ability to destroy and dispose of unclaimed and diseased animals, follow oral and written instructions, deal tactfully with the public, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public. Ability to speak English and Spanish.
Authority and Accountability
Employees in this class are delegated the authority necessary for performance of assigned duties, within departmental restrictions, and are directly accountable to the Animal Control Supervisor.
