Position Summary

Pipefitters lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
• Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
• Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
• Cut and bore holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks, walls, and mains, prior to pipe installation, using hand and power tools.
• Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools.
• Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
• Remove and replace worn components.
• The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years’ pipefitting experience is required. Must have all required hand tools. Must be able to read and understand blueprints as well as company policies.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift in excess of 100 pounds frequently and climb in excess of 300 feet if needed. Must be able to pull own weight when climbing. Bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling required throughout the day. Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations, loud noises, a dusty work environment, and be around high voltage electromagnetic fields.
