MyVillager (Villager Communications Inc) is Hiring an Associate Editor Near Paul, MN

Villager Communications Inc., the publisher of My Villager newspaper serving St. Paul and its surrounding communities, is a thriving and long-established community publication. Published in print every other week we also have a vibrant website, e-edition and social media online coverage. Our small and nimble team seeks an Associate Editor for a varied and important role. Working closely with our Senior Editor, our new Associate Editor will have responsibilities spanning editing, crime reports, newspaper and website layout, social media, and archiving. We seek a strong writer and editor with broad interests and skills for this fast-paced and rewarding role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with writers, photographers, and staff to assign, develop and edit compelling content.
  • Collect, write, and publish crime reports.
  • Complete bi-weekly print layout of the paper, determining issue size, page set-up, ad placement, and overall accuracy.
  • Design, layout, and publish My Villager electronic edition and web layout.
  • Post to and manage social media, respond to comments and messages, and promote our content.
  • Maintain the publication's hard copy and digital archives, ensuring all content is properly stored and accessible.
  • Utilizing AP writing standards, stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve our editorial processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Highly qualified candidates have 3 – 7 years of newspaper or printed publication writing and editing experience. A Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field is preferred. Experience utilizing AP style standards is required. InDesign experience and prior involvement in laying out publications are preferred. This role is well suited to an individual with many interests and a desire to work for and support a community.
