Where would you step in?

As a valuable member of our inclusive One Water team, you will support our clients throughout the northeast while sitting in our Westfield, Worcester, Westwood, Pocasset, or Portsmouth offices. We offer a hybrid remote work environment and flexible Fridays in the summer.

Our Ecological Restoration Team and Projects

Our staff are passionate about designing and advancing habitat restoration and community resilience projects throughout the northeast, with a focus on projects in our “neighborhood.” We deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions from concept to construction. Our interdisciplinary project teams strive to increase resiliency and stream ecological function by working on the design of river restoration, dam removal, dam repair, freshwater and coastal wetland restoration, fish passage, culvert replacement, and floodplain reconnection projects.

What will you be doing?

As a Project Engineer, you will participate in site planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services for restoration projects, perform field work which could include (following appropriate training) collecting field measurements, sediment probing or sampling, flow data collection, geotechnical boring observation, and dam inspection. There may be the need to assist with dam repair and dredging projects. You will undertake design using AutoCAD, computer modeling, preparation of technical specifications and cost estimates, preparation of reports and correspondence, construction observation, shop drawing and submittal review, and creation of record drawings. You will also assist with business development for new projects and clients. To be a successful Project Engineer, you should feel comfortable taking on and delegating many tasks that require various skills, and appropriately prioritizing those tasks for yourself and other Staff Engineers through completion.

What does a Project Engineer need?

At least four years of consulting engineering experience and increasing responsibility in the water industry. A BS degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or a related field is required, and an MS degree is preferred. Project Engineers will need either a PE license or the ability to obtain one in the next 6 months. The ideal candidate has at least three years of experience working on the design of ecological restoration projects. However, you may have expertise in more specific related areas, such as hydrology and hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering design, wetland science, or fluvial geomorphology, but as long as you have the enthusiasm and the motivation to learn, you will be considered. You will have experience using AutoCAD and may have experience using modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PeakFQ, and HydroCAD, as well as experience with GIS. You are expected to be enthusiastic to learn, self-motivated, and have strong, clear, and concise written and verbal communication skills.
