Qualifications:

· Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field desired

· Moderate knowledge of computer experience, data entry and internet research

· Knowledge of community resources and funding sources

· Certified Prevention Specialist credential required w/in 2 years of hire

· Acceptable criminal records check, meeting the Agency definition of acceptable moral character

· Negative Drug Screen/TB Test

· Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable for insurance purposes

Additional Specifications:

§ Health: The staff must be in such physical and mental health so as not to negatively affect either the health of the client served or the quality of services provided. 

§ Knowledge: The staff shall have sufficient knowledge to solve unusual as well as commonplace problems. He/she shall have a basic understanding of the client population as well as specific treatment knowledge and intervention skills.

§ Supervision: The staff shall be supervised by the Executive Director

§ Skills: A staff shall have good skills in working with the targeted population, monitoring and evaluating programs and program needs. 

§ Judgment: The staff shall have sufficient knowledge to be able to exercise sound judgment within their assigned areas of responsibility. He/she shall be able to work on a day-to-day basis without immediate direction from the Executive Director. The staff shall be able to handle emergencies as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual.

§ Performance Standards: This position shall adhere to an acceptable code of ethics; maintain consumer/employee confidentiality, effective teamwork, courteous professional interactions with public and co-workers.

§ Level of Access –Limited access to demographic records for persons receiving Prevention services.

General Statement of Duties:

The Prevention Specialist is a position of considerable community services responsibilities. Under general supervision, the Prevention Specialist plans and conducts community based and school based primary and secondary prevention programs. Program Management, data entry and travel are required.

Specific Responsibilities and Job Duties:

Program Management

1. Present programs for community education.

2. Provide timely and accurate documentation of service activities and time utilization.

3. Provide timely and accurate documentation for outside referral sources upon request.

4. Enter program data into State Prevention Data system.

5. Plans and conducts didactic groups.

6. Present substance abuse prevention programs for Intervention Center, schools, community agencies, businesses and/or groups.

7. Provides prevention services at the Intervention Center and Juvenile Day Treatment Night Watch Program.

8. Serves as a liaison between I.M.P.A.C.T. and community prevention groups.

9. Works within a flexible schedule with the ability to shift work hours as required to perform the scheduled programs.

10. Performs state required SYNAR and non-SYNAR tobacco compliance checks.

11. Performs Alcohol vendor education programs.

Other Responsibilities

12. Adheres to Agency established code of ethics

13. Follows all I.M.P.A.C.T. and regulatory Agency policies and procedures.

14. Complete trainings in research based programs offered by the Agency.

15. Complete monthly vehicle inspection checklist.

16. Adheres to all HIPAA related policies.

17. Performs other tasks as assigned.
