Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide full support to and under the direction of an Occupational Therapist providing the full spectrum of occupational rehabilitative services including support of inpatients, outpatients and specialized treatments.
  • Assist in the evaluation of patient’s daily living skills and capacities to determine extent of abilities and limitations.
  • Assist in planning and implementing educational, vocational, and recreational programs and activities established by registered occupational therapist, designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance task performances, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain health and self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies and assist in ordering replacements.
  • Set up and remove equipment and supplies, assuring that equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
  • Fabricate splints and other assistant devices.
  • Assist in escorting patients to programs and other areas on the hospital as directed.
  • Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or in writing to the occupational therapist.
  • Maintain patient records in accordance with MTF requirements and professional standards, documenting evaluation, care plan, treatment, required follow-up care and final disposition.
  • Assist with general activity program for individuals or groups.
  • Assist in instructing patient and family in home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Prepare work materials, assist in maintenance of equipment, and check/record equipment temperature logs.
  • Assist in administering situational or diagnostic tests to measure patient’s abilities or progress.
  • Participate in established department policies and procedures, objectives and Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program (QA/QI), safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Perform clerical duties as required, to include typing, filing and data collection, scheduling, and answering telephone.
  • Administrative duties may also include: telephoning patients according to clinic policy, pre-screening patient consults, patient scheduling, and other duties as required.
  • Act as a liaison with nursing, medical staff, and other therapists to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services. Act as educational resource.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associates Degree for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Graduate from a college or university accredited at the time of graduation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience within the preceding three (3) years.
  • Certified through the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an occupational therapy assistant.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
