Pullman School District is Hiring a Bus driver Near Pullman, WA

DEFINITION OF POSITION : Safely operate a school bus under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, ice and snow.

Transport students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from school" routes, and on field, extracurricular and special activity trips as authorized by the school district.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR : Transportation Supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be 21 years old or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Have a minimum of three years driving experience
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver's license with appropriate endorsements (CDL-B with air restriction removed;

passenger endorsement and "S" endorsement) Reimbursement will be provided for the cost of obtaining a CDL.

  • Meet the physical and mental standards as set forth by the Department of Licensing necessary to perform duties, tasks, and responsibilities of a school bus driver
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a current First Aid / CPR card
  • Take and pass a drug and alcohol test as required by the school district and federal requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Hearing sufficient to detect and distinguish traffic sounds from any direction outside the bus, such as horns, sirens, trains, etc.

from a distance, which will allow adequate time for defensive or evasive action to avoid hazardous situations

Sufficient command of the English language to communicate with students, parents, district staff members and other members of the public

ESSENTIAL JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES

  • Attend and satisfactorily complete required bus driver training course and evaluation
  • Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies established by the state and School District
  • Drive a school bus on a scheduled route and / or all types of trips in support of district approved activities, both within and outside the school district
  • Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State (minimum) school bus specifications
  • Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, chains, sanders, first aid kits, etc.
  • Clean, inspect and service the school bus and related equipment as required by the state and district policy to include but not limited to interior and exterior sweeping and washing, fueling, checking oil, coolant, tire inflation etc.
  • Perform required operational and safety inspections of school buses and all related equipment daily
  • Legible and accurate completion of forms, records, and reports as required by the state and / or school district including but not limited to : time sheets, trip logs, trouble reports, misconduct and accident reports, and others as may be required.
  • Attend all trainings and information meetings as required.
  • Perform basic first aid / CPR as needed and appropriate
  • Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions, which required the attention of any person other than the driver
  • Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization
  • Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner and is a positive team builder
  • Meet multiple demands in a pressure situation and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Deal with the public, other agencies and district employees in a positive and productive manner
  • Communicate clearly, orally and in writing
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by supervisors

TERMS OF CONTRACT

  • Salary : Trainee : $16.28 per hour; On-Call Driver & Regular Route Driver : $25.62 - $28.84 per hour
  • Length of Contract : Hours / days vary
  • Benefits / Leaves : Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick / emergency leave and personal leave as per board policy (Board Policy 5200).
