Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring a Health Aide Near Remlap, AL

Job Description Title- Health Aide

Reports To: Principal and Registered School Nurse

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt

Job Goal: To assist school nursing personnel by performing routine health-related tasks and clerical services, under the direction of the school nurse, to aid in the health care needs of students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and academic competency in basic skills
  • Must obtain a criminal history background clearance and meet the suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

Skills and Physical Abilities:

  • The employee must have physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, reflexes, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and overall mobility to perform job responsibilities.
  • The employee must be able to lift 10 to 25 lbs.
  • The employee must be able to hear and speak to exchange information in person, on the telephone or school intercom.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the principal and school nurse, administration, parents, faculty and students.
  • Ability to work independently, with empathy, demonstrates initiative, prioritizes tasks, and performs assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all student and staff personally identifiable information in regards to outlined requirements in Board policy, Blount County Security Use Agreement, Responsible Use Policy, FERPA and any and all state and federal laws and statues.
  • With appropriate training and certification, administer first aid when necessary.
  • As designated by school nursing personnel, assists self-directed students to take assigned medications that are kept in the school health office.
  • Follows established school procedures for care and reporting of injuries and illness. Consults with school nursing personnel regarding unusual or difficult problems.
  • Assists school physician and/or school nurse in physical, visual, auditory and scoliosis screening examinations or other health screening tests of students and employees.
  • Assists school nursing personnel with clerical tasks surrounding making referrals to parents resulting from screening procedures and physical examinations.
  • Assists with immunization clinics by recording inoculations, preparing individuals and keeping order.
  • Assists school nursing personnel in preparing health displays for the purpose of disseminating health and wellness information to students and staff.
  • Attend meeting and in-service presentations (e.g., emergency procedures, training models, system and local professional development, etc.) for the purpose of gaining information relative to job functions.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., students that are: running, fighting, displaying inappropriate behavior, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Be regular and punctual in attendance.
  • Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees.
  • Perform duties in a manner that will promote good public relations.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by principal or administration.

Terms of employment: 182-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Salary:

Approved salary schedule for Aides is located on the Human Resources webpage. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week with daily full-time equivalent of 37.5 standard work hours.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
