POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

* TYPICAL PAY/RANGE: $103,000 - $129,000

The Federal NSE is responsible for the design and implementation of network security solutions in a federal organization, not excluding network security testing and implementation of new products or improvements to existing and current products.

This entails providing support to the production environment and ensuring that the right security policies and practices are implemented and enforced, including support of penetration and vulnerability test and reports. Also, assisting in maintaining the operating systems and security software used on the network and executing maintenance to enhance network and tool availability.

This will also involve working with other teams in the organization as a technical resource in technical matters, such as educating on technical solutions and researching issues ranging from features, functionality to integration, specifications, and installation.

Duties:

  • Assist with project, configure, implement, and maintenance on security platforms and any other related software, such as anti-virus, routers, Anti-SPAM, switches, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention, firewalls, cryptography systems, SIEM, and MDM.
  • Plan and appraise ongoing assessment of antivirus, application control, firewall, SIEM, VPN, SSL, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention and other network component policies.
  • Guarantee network security best practices are executed through auditing: router, change control, switch, firewall configurations, and monitoring.
  • Reviewing vulnerability scans and reporting on remediation efforts
  • Articulate systems and methodologies as well as reply to security-related events and support in remediation efforts.
  • Coordinate and oversee log analysis for company managed services offerings to ensure policy and security requirements are met.
  • Work with team to form and fix appropriate policy and signature rules. This comprises tuning and development of the creation of custom intrusion detection and SIEM signatures and rules, including the efficient on-boarding and understanding of varying log sources into SIEM environments.
  • Maintain secure messaging and file storage platform including user management, storage architecture design, and troubleshooting issues related to SMTP, PKI, and Windows file permissions.
  • Work in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders to ensure devices are fully operational and secure.
  • Work under strict change control processes to ensure only authorized changes are made to devices.
  • Collaborate with other departments on security-related items.
  • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s level degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent work- or education-related experience.
  • Minimum of eight to 10 years of experience in a combination of information security and IT jobs.
  • Experience working and contributing to information security assessments in a DoD environment.
  • Extensive technical know-how of security network devices (switches, antivirus, firewalls, cryptography, SIEM) and any other security networking hardware or software tools
  • Strong routing & switching experience is an added advantage.
  • Reviewing system changes for security implications and recommending improvements.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge implementing, configuring, integrating, and supporting the network security with Checkpoint, F5 Load balancers, BigIP LTM, GTM, IPAM, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto, Juniper, BlueCoast security solutions, or Fortinet.
  • Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Security or other similar credentials, is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate security and risk-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.
  • Must be a critical thinker, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
  • High level of personal integrity and able to professionally handle confidential matters, showing an appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
  • High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance.
  • Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as
    • CMMC (preferred)
    • NIST SP800-171/53 (preferred)
  • High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.
