Technology AspectTo establish a clear duty of care, Stellar Virtual and its affiliates require all employees to cover the costs associated with acquiring and providing the equipment (i.e., computers, internet service, telephone, home office setup, etc.) associated with virtual employment.

Position Overview

The role of IT Support Specialist was established for the primary purpose of providing troubleshooting and technical support to our families, students, and employees. This includes (Help Desk, Chromebooks Support, Inventory Oversight and Control, Technical Support, Google Workspace, Student Information System Administration, Learning Management System Administration, Systems Integrations). This position is also responsible for configuring, administering, and ensuring data connections between major internal and external systems including Google Workspace, Student Information Systems and Learning Management Systems. 

Essential Position Functions

  • Remotely configures new Chromebooks with educational usage features, along with preparing them for student use; Manages inventory control and licenses of Chromebooks;
  • Diagnoses and repairs software or equipment failures for Chromebooks, PCs, and Macs (diagnoses may need to be done remotely) via email, chat, text, and phone;
  • Responds to a variety of questions from school staff, parents, and students for the purpose of providing technical information, guidance, or referral;
  • On-boards and off-boards employees within corporate systems to maintain the integrity of shared and/or proprietary data;
  • Maintains records (e.g. support request logs, inventory, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information, and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail;
  • Researches a variety of topics for the purpose of making recommendations regarding vendors to use for repairs and/or supplies;
  • Coordinates reclamation of Chromebooks by sending return labels as needed;
  • Supports data integrations between internal and external systems such as the CRM, SIS and LMS;
  • Uses excel formulas and automation to assist departments in automating repetitive tasks and solving complex data problems;
  • Trains school staff on a variety of operations (e.g. Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Youtube, etc.) for the purpose of providing ongoing support, training, and development and maximizing the capabilities of staff. 

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Knowledge of Excel and Google Workspace applications and Admin Console, current and legacy cloud-based operating systems, and office software;
  • Utilizing diagnostic tools; Creating and following predefined processes;
  • Adhering to safety practices when related to personal computer use;
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate records;
  • Creative problem-solving with the ability to provide excellent customer service;
  • Good communication with strong team collaboration; efficient and independent work.

  • Knowledge and comfort with evolving online technologies that support a virtual work environment, including Google Workspace and Google Apps for Education;

Education & Certification Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • Certifications in IT, Computer Diagnostics/Repair, and Network Diagnostics/Repair
