We’re currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Packaging Engineer, Rockford to join our growing team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for executing packaging projects for future and existing product formats. They will perform packaging assignments as part of a work team involved in the planning, organizing, and developing new technology, innovation and cost savings. Significant collaboration is expected with all staff in Marketing, R&D (local & international), QA, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing & Engineering. This position is responsible for the design, qualification, and recommendation of packaging projects under the guidance of the Packaging Development Scientist. Additional responsibilities include:

• Making prototypes for marketing evaluation.
• Maintain SOP’s and Packaging Lab Equipment.
• Manage competitor’s products released in the US market including analysis and pulling samples for evaluation with marketing, management and product development department.
• Manage Product Data Record system of packaging specifications
• Meeting with marketing along with product development technologies to determine project direction.
• Solicit new materials to test as well as evaluate fundamental interactions with raw materials, processing, packaging and distribution conditions.
• Coordinate packaging trials including documentation and report outs.
• Travel for packaging FAT’s, press checks, and other co-packer projects.
• Assist in the coordination of research projects and determine development steps for new products based on project objectives.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

• BS Packaging/Chemical Engineering. (entry level to 2 years of experience, ideally with some background in a food manufacturing facility).
• Knowledge of sanitation and GMP practices, good organization skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment; possess sharp analytical stills and creative problem solver; dedication to meet project deadlines and willing to work extended hours when necessary.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment; team player yet able to work independently; resourceful and takes initiative.
• Strong understanding of Excel as an analytical tool. Word and PowerPoint for reporting as needed.
• Interest in the consumer food products industry.
• Ability to travel occasionally domestically and internationally (20%).
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
