Summary:
Inspects, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, rounds and performs preventative maintenance on all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, life support equipment including electrical safety testing. .
The Biomedical Technician demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment of Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities:
Performs timely preventive and corrective maintenance on medical devices
Participates with Facilities Engineers and others in the development and installation of equipment and systems.
Document and maintain P.M. program keeping database current
Attends training and service schools on medical equipment as required
Maintains relationships with customers by rounding and communicating effectively.
Works well with other departments to achieve goals
Takes on-call rotation as established by Facilities Services
Adds and removes equipment from the database. Verifies or develop PM procedures that meet manufacture specifications
Acts as a technology advisor to clinical staff
Performs electrical safety inspection on newly purchased, loaner and trial equipment
Participates as a technical advisor concerning purchase of medical equipment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) from an accredited college.
In lieu of an Associates Degree in BMET, consideration will be given to
a certificate from a military biomedical training program
a certificate from a military electronics-related training program
an Associates Degree in Electronics Technology from an accredited college
in combination with one or more of the following:
completion of college-level course work in basic chemistry and basic anatomy/physiology (*)
certificate or diploma in biomedical equipment technology
CBET,CRES, or CLES certification from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation
Note: Current enrollment in basic chemistry and/or basic anatomy/physiology will be accepted, provided these courses are successfully completed within 12 months of the date of hire.
Or
Currently employed Covenant BMET extern who has completed a minimum of six months in the externship program and who is pending graduation from an accredited college.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License required
At least one service modality supported must be crucial to hospital operations i.e anesthesia, or lasers
