State of North Carolina is Hiring a Survey Crew Leader Near Statesville, NC

This is an anticipated vacancy.Â
This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of a State Teleworking Pilot Program. Any telework will be under the conditions of the State Teleworking Program Policy, and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time at the employer's sole discretion.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. This position's typical work hours are 8am - 5pm. This position will be designated on-call periods to serve as the primary point of contact for state-level coordination of emergency services resources.

The salary grade for this position is NC11. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
The Survey Crew Leader will require the selected candidate to have an advanced level professional work supporting engineers, surveyors and other professionals. The selected candidate will be serving as a geodetic survey crew chief, performing all aspects of geodetic surveying and survey activities to support the floodplain mapping/flood inundation mapping alert network. The candidate will also be expected to supervise members of the survey crew, training other technicians and reviewing the work of members of the survey crew for accuracy, as well as serve as office manager for Mooresville geodetic survey office. The Survey Crew Leader will be responsible to complete tasks such as utilizing specialized geodetic and conventional survey methods with specialized equipment. This will include geodetic quality Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers recording signals from navigational satellites, geodetic and conventional leveling equipment, total stations, and gravity meters.
The Survey Crew Leader will perform a wide variety of complex assignments in analyzing, computing, editing, processing of geodetic/conventional survey field data and daily direct the activities of members of the survey crew in data collection of geodetic and conventional surveys.
If selected for the position, the candidate will be expected to review completed field data performed by the field crew to insure completeness and accuracy. This position involves a fairly wide range of independent decision making and use of judgment in the field and geodetic/conventional survey activities. The selected candidate will receive project assignments from higher level professionals and will be expected to direct the survey crew in the field operations to complete the assignments.
This position will be responsible for the safety of the survey crew performing field operations in a safe manner and utilizing traffic control when working on or near a roadway. This position is also responsible for the daily operations of the field crew, including administrative work needed to ensure that the office operates efficiently.
Geodetic Survey Section
The Geodetic Survey Section applies state-of-the art methods of precise positioning and advanced geodetic techniques to establish and maintain the official survey base of the state of North Carolina and to support floodplain mapping, boundary determination, property delineation, infrastructure development, resource evaluation surveys, GIS, agriculture and scientific applications.The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:Â
  • Experience using survey grade GNSS equipment, or similar software equipment, to collect accurate horizontal/vertical positional data.
  • Experience using total stations and/or level equipment to collect accurate horizontal/vertical positional data.

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
