Job DescriptionJob Title: Guidance Counselor
Qualifications: Master’s Degree and certification in Secondary Guidance
Job Goal: Under occasional supervision, provide a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for students; to consult with parents/guardians, teachers, and other school staff members to enhance their effectiveness in guiding and supporting students in progressing through the grade levels and in planning their careers; and to provide support for other education programs in the school
Reports to: Principal
General Performance Responsibilities
Terms of Employment: 200 days based on Lexington 4 Certified Teacher Salary Schedule
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy and SDE regulations.

Reports to: Principal
General Performance Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains confidential student case files
- Attends meetings with staff and service providers to discuss individual student education plans and progress
- Provides individual and group counseling for students; consults with parents; prepares and maintains progress notes
- Observes students in classroom and during other activities as requested; makes recommendations as appropriate to help teachers assist students in improving academic and behavioral performance
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints in areas of responsibility and as directed by supervisor
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as co-workers, other administrators and staff, school administration and staff, vendors, and the general public
- Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Aids students in planning course of study and helps students evaluate career interests; distributes occupational information
- Coordinates special projects as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
