National Experienced Workforce Solutions is Hiring an Archaeologist Near Taos, NM

This position supports the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico, Taos Field Office? The BLM Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55 ) to the BLM to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? BLM ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 30 weeks. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30 hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the BLM or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under BLM direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. BLM ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.
QualificationsMinimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Anthropology/Archaeology OR BA/BS Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology
  • Operation of four wheel drive vehicles. Navigation skills using GPS coordinates.

DutiesConducts National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 compliance projects within the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument (RGDNNM) and Taos Field Office.
  • Assists with Section106 projects and activities related to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, policies and guidance for a field office's specific land and resource management programs, projects, and support activities and the resolution of protests and appeals. Analyzes and provides guidance for field office planning and environmental processes, documents, and supporting records for compliance with BLM planning and NHPA procedural requirements. Serves as technical liaison between the field office and other entities, such as the state office, other BLM offices, the Washington Office, the Solicitor's Office, other Federal, State and local government agencies, Indian Tribal Governments, contractors, and external customers. 65%
  • Program Development and Coordination - Coordinates and provides planning and NHPA program oversight to interdisciplinary teams in the implementation of land use plans, implementation level plans, and project specific plans. Coordinates identification of inventory and data collection needed to conduct resource management planning and NHPA decision-making efforts. Coordinates resource assessment activities to determine resource condition in advance of planning and decision making efforts. Coordinates monitoring activities to assure that decisions are being implemented and desired effects are being achieved. Coordinates evaluation of land use plans within the administrative boundary of the field office. Coordinates the development and accomplishment of implementation strategies for planning and NHPA decisions.Reviews and evaluates all planning documents prepared by the field office staff and recommends changes to comply with current directives and guidance. 15%
  • Assist with other work related to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument and Taos Field Office as needed. 20%

  • Physical requirements: Work is mostly field based. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to hike into difficult areas for up to 5 miles per day. Possible occasional overnight trips to the field.
