Job Description

Position Title: Staff Scientist Employee Type: Full‐Time

Summary: Successfully candidates assists with environmental projects that improve the environmental and contribute to community advancement. Typical tasks include report and plan writing, as well as field work. GEG has reporting and field work focused environmental scientist options available.

Essential Functions:

This is an entry to mid-level position that will require training and knowledge in applicable environmental and safety regulatory programs including WVDEP Corrective Action Guidance, AST Phase I/II ESA, asbestos and demolition, OSHA, UST/AST, VRP/UECA. The selected candidate will be mentored by senior level staff.

The following are examples of tasks to be completed:

* Draft Phase I and II Environmental Assessment Reports.

* Draft SPCC Plans and Groundwater Monitoring Reports.

* Assist with environmental media sampling (soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, soil vapor, air).

* AST/UST reporting

* Perform asbestos sampling and reporting.

Education/ Certification Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Management, Engineering, Geology or related fields.

* 40‐Hour HAZWOPER with Annual 8‐Hour Refreshers (desired but not necessary)

Experience and Skill Requirements:

* Environmental science experience, 0-5 years minimum

Competencies:

* Ability to be coached and mentored by senior level staff

* Physical science knowledge

* Decision analysis and interpretation

* Data analysis and interpretation

* Problem solving

* Reporting and documentation

* Computer and IT tool usage

* Ability to collaborate with others toward project goals

* Team communication

* Ability to make conclusions and recommendations based on technical data and information

* Must be able to work in an office and field setting.

Work Environment:

Reporting Focused: This position operates in a professional office environment with some field work also included. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Field Focused This position operates outside at various commercial / industrial sites with some office work also included. This role also routinely uses standard field equipment such as pumps, meters, etc.

Other duties:

* Must have valid drivers license and maintain a clean driving record.

* Must pass a background check.

* Must pass a initial and on-going physicals and drug screenings.
