Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer designs and tests EV systems to be integrated into vintage cars. This includes selecting and evaluating electrical components including but not limited to motors, controllers, charging, batteries, and battery management systems. In addition, The Electrical Engineer will design and evaluate high voltage and 12-volt automotive wiring diagrams and harnesses. The Electrical Engineer will also design software and hardware solutions for integration of CAN enabled components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Systems Integration
• Conducting tests of new components, assemblies, and systems; maintaining accurate records of test results
• Installing parts and components on prototype vehicles, maintaining accurate records of the installation of these parts
• Conducting tests of electric vehicles both on road and on the bench
• Prototyping electrical harnesses
• Programing and troubleshooting motor controllers, chargers, and Battery Management Systems
• Evaluating the general safety and durability of in-house developed EV systems
• Operating required machinery and equipment in a safe manner following established safety rules, maintaining a neat and clean work area, following established tool and instrument control procedures, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to immediate supervisor

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• At least 5 years of professional experience in a related field
• Experience with automotive mechanics
• Experience with high voltage battery and battery management systems
• Knowledge of CAN software/hardware protocols
• Experience developing EV electrical systems
• Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering concepts that pertain to high-voltage EV systems
• Must demonstrate ability to operate basic shop equipment
• Must possess the ability to communicate both orally and in writing

Desired Skills

• Modeling Electrical systems using CAD software
• Be able to work on a multi discipline team; mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers
• Experience with EV conversions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times requires ear plugs, use of eye protection, and/or occasional use of a respirator.
