Job Description: Programs Specialist

MOSA Certified Organic is the Midwest Lead Cooperator for the USDA Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). Our coalition of partners serves producers in Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Through TOPP, the Midwest Regional Center and its partner organizations will connect farmers transitioning to organic with local, experienced organic mentors; provide farmer training and education; develop and expand access to technical assistance and training; build networks and strengthen the organic community; and support workforce training and development. The Program Specialist will collaborate with the Program Director, program partners, and stakeholders throughout the 11-state Midwest Region to support the smooth functioning of our program, support marketing and communication aspects of the program, report on deliverables, and support additional, future grants awarded to MOSA.

Employment Status: Full-time, three-year term FLSA Classification: Exempt

Location: Remote Creation Date: June 2024

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with and provides excellent service to MOSA staff, program partners, and the National Organic Program (NOP)
  • Assists the Program Director to develop, document, and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure effective program delivery
  • Monitors program progress and performance, makes recommendations for process improvements
  • Provides essential meeting support with program sub-committees
  • Reviews and evaluates partner quarterly reports
  • Manages all event, resource, and news postings on TOPP website
  • Manages all partner and supporting partner updates
  • Responsible for all aspects of MW TOPP, bi-monthly (six times annually) newsletter
  • Coordinates graphic design projects and fulfills all marketing materials requests
  • Assists in developing and managing social media marketing and influencer marketing strategy
  • Collaborates with the MW TOPP and MOSA teams to create a social media calendar.
  • Interacts with users and responds to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
  • Reviews website and social media analytics and creates reports on key metrics.

Other Duties:

  • Maintains an understanding of MOSA’s policies and procedures as outlined in MOSA’s Bylaws, Employee Manual, and its Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and trainings and represents TOPP at industry events as needed or required
  • Undertakes any other tasks or duties assigned by the Program Director

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Organizational skills and adaptability: the ability to respond quickly to a shifting reality and adjust initiatives and priorities accordingly
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Bachelor's in business administration, operations management, or a related field. In lieu of formal education, will consider candidates with at least three years of relevant experience
  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
  • Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills
  • Experience with WordPress, CRM software and Google Suite
  • Ability to work self-directed
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Experience with or knowledge of non-profit accounting methods and federal award management preferred
  • Project management experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to spend long periods of time working on a computer.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently
  • Occasional travel to industry events
