Waller Independent School District is Hiring a Counselor (24-25) Near Waller, TX

Job Title:Counselor
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to:Principal
Pay Grade: AP2
Dept./School:Assigned Campus

Work Days: 197 (Elementary)
Primary Purpose: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to school assigned, including counseling services. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling
  • Valid Texas Counseling Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of counseling procedure, student appraisal, and career development
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Experience:
  • Three years experience as a classroom teacher

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Guidance

  • Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
  • Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups.

Consultation

  • Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.

Assessment

  • Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
  • Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately.

Program Management

  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of guidance program and make changes based on finding.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.

Administration

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling areas.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Professional

  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Other
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: NONE

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Work with frequent interruptions; work prolonged or irregular hours
