Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and leadership and guidance of the Technical Coordinator, processes/accessions lab specimens including body fluids, tissues and cultures. Under the immediate direction of the Supervisor and the clinical guidance of a Technical Coordinator or Medical Technologist, performs a variety of waived and moderate complexity analytical determinations on patient body fluid and tissue samples using established and approved protocols, for the physician’s use in the diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions. Provides support to the technical staff through instrument maintenance, scanning reports, filing, inventory management, answering phones and calling for pertinent patient information and or results as assigned.
Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications:
Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED, College level course work especially in health care related fields or biology preferred.

Job Knowledge & Skills:
Requires knowledge of laboratory testing, reporting procedures, specimen collection and processing, in addition to the operation and maintenance of related equipment in order to perform a variety of analytical tests on patient specimens.
Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, and comfort appropriate to the age (including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and diagnosis of patients served to support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary plan of care.
Requires basic analytical and organizational skills in order to provide accurate test data to physicians and appropriate hospital staff as ordered.
Requires a basic understanding of the role of the laboratory in providing excellent patient care. Understands the responsibility of the laboratory to provide accurate and timely information to assist in positive patient outcomes. Understands the importance of maintaining working relationships with other staff members in the laboratory and the hospital.
Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written.
Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
