Summary: : Life Care, Inc is a Human Services Agency that provides many services, such as behavioral health, employment services,
housing, SUD, medical services, and other related services, to a diverse population. As an agency deeply rooted in recovery, we
have a keen interest in promoting and maintaining a Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace. SUD Counselors provide counseling and
support for Life Care Inc.’s Substance Abuse Program clients with the purpose of assuring quality clinical services, documentation,
and professional conduct as it relates to patient care within the policy & procedures for all regulatory agencies that govern care in
the District of Columbia.
Reports to: SUD Program Manager as it relates to the information needed. Also, to Medical Director as it relates to the Treatment of patients in Life Care Inc. programs.
Workers Supervised: None
Interrelationship: He/she must be able to work collaboratively with the Psychiatrist/Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Clinical Managers, Community Support Workers, and Admin. Assistants to promote the Mission and Vision of Life Care, Inc.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Provide Substance Abuse Counseling-Based services to individuals, groups, and families, which are within the scope of
his/her training and experience.
• Program and introduce treatment strategies to ensure clients are engaged and positively impacted by the mission/vision
of Life Care, Inc.
• Complete Intake Assessment which includes assessment and treatment plans.
• Process assessments for new clients efficiently and in accordance with DBH/Life Care Inc. policy and procedures.
• Obtains pertinent information from new clients by asking them to complete assessments or interviews courteously and
professionally.
• Collects and assess data to help with the admission process if working in a health or mental care facility.
• Assist with providing weekly productivity reports to ensure budgetary goals are being met as per the information provided
by executive leadership.
• Collaborate with SUD Program Manager on developing outreach plans to enhance client recruitment, community
partnerships, and coordination with third-party resources within ward 7 and ward 8 community to expand the marketability
of the agency in the community.
Skills Required
• Knowledge and experience using the ASAM CoTriage and Continuum assessment tools
• Active listening skills and paying attention to details.
• Able to learn and use Electronic Health Records (EHR) for documentation.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills, for effective interaction and communication.
• Proficient writing, documentation, organizational skills.
• Able to work individually and as a team
• Ability to effectively manage stress, time, meet productivity expectations and deadlines
• Good analytical and critical thinking skills are especially important for instant consumer evaluation.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work harmoniously with other professionals and co-workers.
• Good observational and problem-solving skills are key to picking out consumers’ behavioral changes.
• Excellent and stable personal emotional and psychological health as to be able to offer consumers with excellent
emotional and mental support.
• Be very compassionate, empathetic, and understanding.
• Being eclectic and knowledge of various therapeutic models in order to meet consumers’ where they are.
