SUMMARY: The ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH provides leadership and direction to the assigned sports team as coordinated with the team’s head coach. The assistant coach shall enforce all rules of the WIAA as they relate to the respective sport and will assist with the organization and administration of the assigned athletic team.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200 tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be at least 19 years old
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Hold a valid and current first Aid Certification card or be enrolled in a Red Cross first aid card training course
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Have an associate’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Physical Education, coaching or a related field; or have three or more years of direct work experience as a coach of a major team sport (Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.)
Have knowledge of WIAA interscholastic activities policies and WIAA coaching standards
Be experienced in coaching a diverse student population
Be a current employee of Chief Leschi Schools – preferably a certificated employee
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful criminal background clearance
Successful and/or clear drug screening
KNOWLEDGE OF:
School board policies and procedures
League and WIAA rules and regulations
Record keeping and report preparation
ABILITY TO:

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community, including school and central office administrators, parents, and community members
Work with and relate to Native American children and serve as a positive role model
Demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms and is regularly required to talk or hear; stand and/or walk; bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel; and use hands to finger, handle, feel and perform fine motor manipulations. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up 75 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
