Prairie Moon Nursery is Hiring a Procurement Specialist Near Winona, MN

Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and establish relationships with reputable suppliers specializing in high-quality native plants and seeds to negotiate contracts, pricing, and purchase orders effectively.
  • Monitor market trends, availability, and seasonality of native plant species and seeds to make informed and strategic purchasing decisions.
  • Discover and competitively bid on government or large-scale projects, assist in setting retail and wholesale pricing, and participate in company decisions regarding seed and plant production, field maintenance, and land rental.
  • Oversee the Seed Intake Manager and Inventory Coordinator to assist with conducting regular quality and authenticity inspections of seed shipments/harvests.
  • Collaborate with the Seed Intake Manager to address supplier issues, manage our network of growers, and ensure accurate inventory records and correct lot usage with the Inventory Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Marketing and Sales to manage inventory, ensure future production, and increase stock of trending species.
  • Effectively utilize the ERP system to implement cost savings initiatives for seeds, plants, and production.
  • Oversee record keeping, tracking seed and plant origins. Establish basic metrics to track sales, inventory levels, profits, seed collection, and markdowns in alignment with our budget and historical data.
  • Collaborate with organizations and agencies and advocate using native plant species in landscaping and restoration projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in 1 or more related fields: horticulture, botany, environmental science, economics, ecology, business management.
  • Proven experience in procurement, sourcing, or inventory management, preferably in the horticulture, agriculture, greenhouse, or landscaping industry.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, as well as a detail-oriented self-starter and innovator.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership skills to ensure the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, vendors, and employees. These skills will be instrumental in expanding this role and growing the business.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite and inventory management software.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • $50,000 - $70,000/year salary, depending on experience.
  • Generous paid time off; vacation, sick, holiday pay.
  • Employee discount.
  • Company-sponsored 401k plan, matching dollar for dollar up to 4%, potential profit-sharing.
