Yuma County is Hiring a Health Educator (Tobacco Program) (Grant Funded) Near Yuma, AZ

This position is advertised from the minimum to the maximum hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time offer. 
NATURE OF WORK 
Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty assisting in the design and delivery of specialized public health education programs in clinics, schools and homes; this position has department specific responsibility.

(Illustrative Only) Identifies, recruits, delivers educational presentations, presents information to individuals for their own health care and trains high-risk individuals to attend health care classes; conducts needs assessments at the individual, organizational, and community levels; collects and applies health information related to assigned community health problems in curriculum and material development; evaluates the effectiveness of health education/promotion programs and makes necessary changes; establishes and maintains partnerships with agencies, communities, or organizations in determining the need for specialized health education program and planning. Implantation, and evaluation of such programs; this includes strategic planning; the use of logic models, development of performance measures, and specific application of health behavior theory; teaches culturally appropriate, effective health promotion and disease prevention classes and workshops for target population; maintains a current list of community resources for patients and their families to maintain and improve their health status; participates in community health fairs and events, networks with community organizations, schools, and outside agencies to provide information on available public health resources in the community; develops, prepares and conducts community outreach and recruitment to enroll individuals in health department programs; acts as advocate and makes appropriate health /community referrals; organizes and distributes printed information, audiovisual materials, and educational aids; assists with the design and preparation of health education materials and departmental publications; maintains records, rosters, and registration forms on clients and program documentation; provides clients with follows up forms and maintains appropriate records; makes appropriate health referrals within specified guidelines; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned. 

Associate’s Degree in public health or closely related field; AND one (1) year of health education experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires successful completion of a background check; must possess or have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card within 3 months of hire; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license is required. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of required training program.

Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; knowledge of basic health care and community health education as relates to the program(s); health promotion and disease prevention; community resources for appropriate referrals. 

Skill in: Speaking to clients of varying backgrounds; communicating complex ideas in clear, understandable terms; public speaking; using computers and software; communicating both verbally and in writing; proper health care techniques; recognizing and reporting patient health status; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; following written and verbal instructions; communicating effectively verbally and in writing. 

Ability to: Read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures; write reports and correspondence; use modern office equipment and computers; lift at least 5 to 25 lbs.; communicate effectively verbally and written; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation 

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
