Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System is Hiring a Blood Donor Technician 1 Near Baton Rouge, LA

Job Description
Responsible for performing accurate and complete pre-donor health histories to determine donor eligibility. Displays excellent phlebotomy skills. (Aforementioned duties are performed during in-center operations and on mobile blood drives).
Responsibilities
  1. Technical Tasks
    1. Performs donor screening and blood collection procedures in a professional and diligent manner. Ensures adequate inventory levels by preparing and submitting customized requisitions for supplies and equipment, verifies that ordered supplies are received and disbursed, and ensures that requisitions are properly filled. Calls blood donors as needed.
    2. Determines blood donor eligibility by performing related testing, evaluating donor/patient medical history, assisting physicians with special tests and procedures, recruiting blood donors, and completing appropriate records pertaining to donations in a manner that ensures donor confidentiality. Participates in mobile and in-house blood bank operations. Assists in the preparation of blood components.
  2. Quality
    1. Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision making processes and in the performance of procedures.
    2. Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, especially those not covered by written or verbal instructions, in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the working environment.
    3. Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  3. Collaboration and Partnership
    1. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals.
    2. Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently in an effort to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory service customers. Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas and requests and orders supplies as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services whenever possible.
  4. Other Duties As Assigned
    1. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
