POSITION TITLE: Product Engineer

PAY GRADE: Salary Exempt

BUSINESS UNIT: Engineering Dept: Engineering-70

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

PURPOSE: An effective Product Engineer holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. Under general direction, organize and lead tooling and product design activities as well as facilitating related team activity with minimal supervision for all projects assigned. Regularly communicate to all stakeholders, both written and verbally, information about the status and strategies of meeting established project goals.

1.0 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: 

1. Lead the project teams for assigned product projects and/or tooling projects with minimal supervision.
2. Coordinate required resources, satisfy all deliverables, and adhere to established procedures while hitting schedule and cost objectives.
3. Lead sustaining engineering projects on existing products and tooling that improve things like design, manufacturability, performance, or cost.
4. Lead end-of-life process for products selected for obsolescence.
5. Coordinate with the affected business units, support services and plant services to establish the appropriate equipment and manufacturing methods to use to meet product specifications and forecast requirements.
6. Work with other tool engineers and tool makers to ensure that any acceptable part design adjustments are implemented to optimize the tool design.
7. Use CAD software to develop solid models and detail drawings. Properly maintain CAD system.
8. Complete financial analysis/ROI reports as needed for projects.
9. Conduct mold flow analysis, FEA simulations, design reviews and functional testing as needed for assigned projects.
10. Complete DFMEA’s for projects and/or as needed for significant changes to existing products.
11. Ensure ERP system is properly setup and maintained for assigned projects for modules such as MRO, BOM, Project Manager, etc.
12. Take initiative to resolve problems once identified and follow up with how effective the resolution was after implementation.
13. Review detail drawings created by other sources (in-house or outside design firms) for accuracy and application.
14. Lead or participate in continuous improvement teams.
15. Report regularly on the status of assigned projects.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned.

2.0 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

3.0 KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering related program preferred.

3.1 Proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant engineering software.

3.2 Strong understanding of engineering principles and design fundamentals.

3.3 Previous product design or tool design experience.

3.4 Injection and custom molding organization

3.5 Four years of related experience.

4.0 MENTAL/VISUAL REQUIREMENT:

Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms. Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings. Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment. Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents. Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
