Job Title: Production Supervisor

OVERVIEW:

As the Production Supervisor at our company, you will be responsible for managing your team of hourly employees, overseeing the day-to-day operations, ensuring that process standards are achieved to produce consistent, safe, high-quality ESL and UHT beverages.

We are seeking someone who will contribute daily to the progress of the plant during start up and commissioning. You will be hands-on through the process of validating production lines and equipment set up, determining, and performing operational checks and testing, performing initial run testing, passivation of equipment, and commissioning. During this time, you will create documents and training procedures, lead a small crew of hourly employees in various tasks, and begin to build knowledge of the plant that will be critical to our successful startup and operation.

Ultimately, you will:

  1. Lead, coach, and mentor the employees on your shift.
  2. Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, other plant leadership and support department employees to ensure consistent performance and optimum production.
  3. Provide detailed daily report outs on inventory, downtime, KPIs, and plans for change overs, maintenance, sanitation to ensure uninterrupted production.
  4. Ensure detailed logs are kept for equipment, process parameters, inventory, and waste tracking. Provide detail and communicate plans for action tracking to resolve issues.
  5. Evaluate production plans and inventory, monitor performance, and communicate with plant leadership to maintain schedule adherence.
  6. Always provide proactive support and solutions.
  7. Monitor and manage use of our ERP system to ensure accurate record keeping, follow recipes precisely, and ensure your team is executing procedures properly.
  8. Actively participate or delegate appropriate personnel in HACCP team, Quality RCAs, routine plant inspections, ISDA, SQF, and customer audits.

The Production Supervisor plays a critical role in our plant management team, reporting to the Plant Manager and Company Owners.

This role requires an inspiring and collaborative leader and team builder with great people and communication skills, experience with milk processing, business and operational acumen in beverage, food, or other manufacturing environments, and a self-driven work ethic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Safety, Responsiveness, and Diligent Records

  • Establish and uphold high standards of safety in all aspects of daily plant operations.
  • Immediately report and escalate any deviation from food safety and quality programs.
  • Coordinate training of operations personnel for equipment, materials, and plant standards.
  • Use your expertise to develop annual growth strategy and roadmaps for your shift/crew to develop competent and confident operators to achieve bench strength and depth of skills.
  • Maintain an action tracker for your team and establish accountability with team to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate processes and standards are in place and followed to keep producing quality beverages, maintain high performance, and generate robust records.
  • Report on leading downtime issues for your shift and work with support departments to address causal factors.
  • Maintain accurate and precise records of materials and for your shift and the upcoming shift to keep the plant running efficiently.

Training and Engagement

  • Always maintain the plant and your personnel in audit-ready status.
  • Exhibit and foster a presence on the floor. Works with operators to troubleshoot and solve problems real-time.
  • Identify and correct root cause for issues that inhibit shift achievement of KPIs.
  • Must have knowledge of or be capable of learning to read and interpret equipment drawings and P&IDs for the plant.
  • Provide personnel and support to vendors and technicians on-site for commissioning, training, PMs, as well as routine and non-routine work. Help capitalize on hands-on learning for your team.
  • Uphold high standards of conduct while providing support to your team.
  • Participate in cross functional teams focused on reducing downtime and improving performance, resolve quality concerns, and take advantage of situations where your expertise can provide coaching or teaching moments to teams.
  • Report out and detail maintenance, instrument or equipment replacement, or PLC changes according to change management protocols.

Supervision Responsibilities

  • This position will require active involvement in daily operations and taking advantage of teaching moments to help grow, develop, and promote personnel in the plant.
  • Help interview, select, onboard, and develop new and existing team members.
  • Manage time and attendance of employees on your shift.
  • Monitor and manage team to production, safety, and quality goals.
  • Operation of systems from raw milk intake through blending and UHT operations.
  • Operation of Aseptic storage tanks and filling packaging lines in the plant.
  • Enforce and ensure adherence to company policy and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively by ensuring employees understand their job responsibilities, priorities, and overall expectations.
  • Continuous training to foster employee understanding and engagement in all aspects of safety, food safety, and overall quality.
  • Enable your employees to be successful by ensuring they have the tools needed to be successful and being available to answer questions.
  • Coach and inspiring the team member to help them realize their optimal performance and success.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BS/BA in manufacturing or related field, and/or a combination of education and 5 years of supervisory experience in food/beverage processing or similar field.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience/knowledge of dairy plant operations, controls systems, pumps, mix proof valves, and milk processing equipment.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience or training related to aseptic (UHT) or extended shelf-life (ESL) products and associated fillers.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment, by being decisive and capable of multitasking.
  • Experience planning production and cleaning routines, planned/preventative maintenance strategies, and compiling weekly performance reports a plus.
  • Proven track record of developing and empowering employees desired.
  • Roles as leader, ideally in a food, beverage, or other manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for food processing, dairy and aseptic products preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing maintenance, successfully holding a similar position, and/or managing people; or some combination of the three.
  • Ability to communicate (written, verbal, and presentations) well with all levels throughout the plant.
  • Lead safety-minded teams.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to moving from startup environment to full production operations.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to translate production schedules, line performance, attainment, and goals into metrics that define health and effectiveness of production operations.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
  • Familiar with current communication tools and platforms (collaboration tools, instant messaging, blogs, etc.) to keep your organization well informed in a timely manner.
  • Fluency in Spanish is advantageous but not required.
